Dental Implants

A titanium root placed in the jawbone to replace missing teeth

Dental Implants

Overview

A dental implant is a titanium screw that replaces the natural tooth root. It is placed in the jawbone and, after a healing period, a porcelain tooth is fitted on top. Unlike a bridge, it does not require cutting the healthy teeth next to the gap.

Before treatment, we assess your gums, jawbone and general health. The procedure is usually done under local anaesthesia. Stitches typically come out after about a week, and the implant takes on average 2-4 months to fuse with the bone. A temporary tooth may be used during this time if suitable.

Benefits

  • Neighbouring healthy teeth are not cut
  • Teeth can be restored individually
  • Helps slow bone loss in the area
  • Can improve retention for removable dentures

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an age limit for implants?

There is no fixed upper age limit for adults whose bone growth is complete. Suitability depends on your exam and general health.

Can an implant be placed right after an extraction?

It may be possible if there is no infection and the bone is suitable. If there is infection, it must heal first.
